About Crosswind

During the early 1990's, the small town of Collierville, Tennessee experienced a rapid growth in population. Many families with young children were drawn to Collierville's small town atmosphere and quality schools. The rapid growth created a need for an additional elementary school. In 1991, Shelby County Schools purchased land directly west of the northwest corner of Byhalia and Shelton Road that extends to the western edge of the Crosswinds subdivision. This site would eventually become the home of Crosswind Elementary School, which opened in 1993.

Mrs. Mary Ann McNeil was named principal of Crosswind Elementary School. Crosswind was the second elementary school to be built in Collierville and is now currently one of the five elementary school of the municipal district of Collierville Schools. In 2004, Ms. Kim Lampkins became principal of Crosswind when Mrs. McNeil retired.  Ms. Lampkins retired in June, 2016. In April 2016, the Collierville Schools named Dr. Andre Crafford as the new principal of Crosswind Elementary School.

Crosswind Elementary has a principal and two assistant principals with 43 full-time teachers, including teachers in art, music, library, and P.E. In addition, Crosswind has a part-time music teacher, a part-time art teacher, two school counselors, a full-time interventionist, and a full-time English as a Second Language teacher. Our Department of Exceptional Children staff (special education) consists of one Resource Alternate teacher, four paraeducators, one speech pathologist, one part-time physical therapist, one part-time occupational therapist, two APEX (gifted) teachers, two resource specialists, and a special education clerical. Other support staff includes a financial secretary, an attendance secretary, a medical records clerk/receptionist, five teacher assistants, two part-time technology supports, a plant manager, a full-time nurse, four cafeteria staff members, and one part-time cafeteria monitor. Furthermore, we have a full-time resource officer who is employed by the Collierville Police Department.

Our school has a very active PTA and encourages parental involvement to enhance our students’ education.  The school is supported with a high number of volunteers that assist with school academic programs and extracurricular activities. Parent volunteers support special programs such as Accelerated Reader, our STEM club, math club, the library, and the health room. Volunteers also assist with a variety of after school special events, such as our Turkey Trot (our annual walk-a-thon school fundraiser.)

Students will continue to be the focus as instructional and operational decisions are made for Crosswind Elementary. We consistently and constantly seek input and feedback from our parents and community stakeholders and we work closely with our school community to provide the best possible learning environment for the students we serve.
