Tracey Brown - Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
Heidi Klco - 3rd - 5th Grade
We are honored to serve as your child’s school counselor. Our primary goal is to promote the personal/social, academic, and career development of all students. To reach all of Crosswind Elementary’s students, we provide whole class lessons once or twice per month focusing on topics such as conflict resolution, coping skills, goal setting, and career exploration.
In addition to whole class lessons, we provide small group counseling on an as-needed basis for students who need additional support or share a common concern. In this setting, students can provide support for each other, while learning new skills and strategies. Students benefit from knowing that they aren’t alone with their struggles. Group topics may include loss/grief, worry skills, study skills, changing families, and social skills development.
We may also provide individual counseling to students. Although this is not “therapy,” meeting one-on-one with a safe, trusted adult, such as the school counselor, can promote students’ personal and social development. Individual counseling may cover a variety of topics based on the student’s needs, and may include peer relationships, family relationships, stress, worries, and school behaviors.
School counselors also consult with teachers, parents, and administration, always keeping what is best for the students at the forefront. If you ever have questions or want to talk about how to help your child, please feel free to reach out to us.
Students may be referred to the school counselor by parents, teachers, administrators, other students, or themselves. For a student to see the school counselor on an regular basis, parental permission is needed.
