Message from Dr. Dyer

Dear Collierville Schools Families and Staff -

In Collierville Schools, we utilize Capturing Kids’ Hearts to build positive, supportive learning environments where students feel connected, respected, and valued. As part of this work, each month we highlight a specific character trait that strengthens our school culture and supports student growth.

For March, the Capturing Kids’ Hearts Word of the Month is Courage. Courage means choosing to move forward even when something feels difficult or uncertain. It is not the absence of fear, it is the decision to push through fear, self‑doubt, or anxiety to do what is right. Across our schools, courage appears in many forms. Examples include trying challenging tasks, speaking up respectfully, showing integrity, and taking responsible risks.

This focus supports our CS2030 strategic plan by helping students develop resilience, communication, problem‑solving skills, and strong character, all qualities essential for success in college, careers, and life.

Thank you for partnering with us to nurture courage in our students. Together, we are preparing them not only for academic success, but also for meaningful futures.

Sincerely,
Dr. Russell Dyer
Director of Schools

TCAP Testing Window Updates

Due to instructional disruptions from winter storms across the state, the TN Department of Education has extended the Spring 2026 TCAP testing window. These adjustments will provide an additional week for classroom instruction, while also ensuring that results are received in time to allow for 3rd-grade ELA retakes (elementary) and for use in course grades (middle and high). Testing was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, April 13. The new district testing windows appear below:

Grades 2-5 = April 20 - May 6
Grades 6-8 = April 20 - May 8
Grades 9-12 = April 20 - May 5

To support your child during testing, please ensure they:
  • Arrive at school on time
  • Get a good night’s rest
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Avoid scheduling appointments during the testing window whenever possible

We appreciate your partnership in supporting our students during this important assessment period. If you have any questions, please contact your child's school.

CHS, CMS, and WCMS Awarded Governor's Civic Seal Award

We are proud to announce that Collierville High School, Collierville Middle School, and West Collierville Middle School have earned the 2024-2025 Governor's Civics Seal from the Tennessee Department of Education.

The Governor’s Civics Seal recognizes schools and districts that prioritize teaching our nation’s history and civic values. Civics education is an essential part of any democracy and equips students with the knowledge and tools to responsibly engage as productive citizens within their communities.

Collierville Schools Awards 16 Educators With Tenure

Collierville Schools awarded 16 educators with tenure at the February Board of Education Business Meeting. By state law, tenure is not a “participation trophy.” It is a distinction earned through five years of hard work, consistently high evaluation scores, and the recommendations of supervising administrators. But even the state’s high bar does not capture what these educators have meant to Collierville Schools.

To thrive in this district, a tenured teacher must be more than just “effective.” He or she must be a classroom leader, a constant learner, and someone genuinely invested in the Collierville Schools community. These recommended teachers have spent the last five years proving – day in and day out – that they are committed to academic rigor, student-centered innovation, and the high level of professional integrity our families understandably expect.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

National Merit Scholar Finalists Announced

Collierville High School is proud to announce that 11 students have been named National Merit Scholarship Finalists for 2026!

As of late February 2026, over 15,000 high school students were announced as finalists in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship program. These students represent the top academic performers in the country (the top <1%) and will be competing for roughly 7,250 scholarships nationwide to be awarded this spring.

To become a Finalist, students must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed by a high school official, submit an essay, and confirm their PSAT scores with a qualifying SAT or ACT score.

Collierville’s finalists are (in alphabetical order): Arjun Aitipamula, Sai Koushik Balusulapalem, Bethany Chao, Keira Crasta, Benjamin Derieg, Shivika Kochher, Rehan Krishnan, William Reynolds, Aatish Satheesh, Aniket Seetharaman, and Sumin Yoon.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding scholars!

Presidental Scholars' Candidates Announced

Congratulations to the five Collierville High School students who have been named candidates for the prestigious Presidential Scholars Award program!

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.

Applications are by invitation only, and students must be nominated by their Chief State School Officer. Students have the opportunity to become Presidential Scholars based on three paths of accomplishment. The majority of the Scholars are selected on the basis of broad academic achievement. Approximately twenty additional students are selected on the basis of their academic and artistic scholarship in the visual arts, the performing arts, or creative writing. Another twenty students are selected on the basis of their outstanding scholarship and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.

Please join us in congratulating (L to R) Benjamin Derieg, Sumin Yoon, Kristen Durfee, Rehan Krishnan, and William Reynolds for this achievement!

These collaborations strengthen the bond between the school and the community and enhance quality of life throughout Collierville.
Taken together, these achievements show how Collierville High School not only educates students academically, but also fosters pride, volunteerism, leadership, and community goodwill, exactly the qualities the Spirit of Collierville Award is meant to honor."

School Principals Visit Sycamore in February

In the month of February, our principals visited SyCamore Elementary School and experienced firsthand what it means to be a Sycamore Lion!

They toured classrooms and saw Capturing Kids’ Hearts in action—from warm greetings to meaningful connections. In one classroom, principals were even invited to sign the Social Contract, modeling the same commitments students uphold each day.

They also enjoyed a fantastic performance from the Chorus Lions and explored the creative, interactive Black History Month Wax Museum presented by Sycamore's talented fourth and fifth graders.

Thank you, Sycamore Elementary, for an amazing visit to see your school!
